Why Calibrate?

Your measurements are wrong…

In fact, no measurement is perfect. Your measured value always includes an uncertainty induced by deficiencies in measurement equipment, procedures and random variables.

Why should you calibrate your tools and instruments?

With increasing demand for known accuracy and uncertainty, it is crucial to know how well your readings reflect reality in order to comply with industry quality standards, customer requirements and/or internal requirements.

– If accuracy matters, calibrate your equipment.
– If it doesn’t, why do you measure?

What is calibration?

In measurement technology (metrology), calibration is the comparison of measurement values delivered by a device with those of a calibration standard of known accuracy. Such a standard could be a reference device of known accuracy.

The service may include adjustments to meet acceptance criteria, but strictly speaking, the term calibration means just the act of comparison, and does not include adjustment.

What is a calibration standard?

The calibration laboratory compares the measuring instrument with a correct value, that is, a traceable standard.

The standard is a quantity based on the seven SI base units plus a number of derived units. SI is the International System of Units (SI, abbreviated from the French Système international (d’unités)).

The seven SI base units: Meter (m), Kilogram (kg), Second (s), Ampere (A), Kelvin (K), Mole (mol) and Candela (cd)

What is accredited calibration?

An accredited laboratory is independently assessed by a national accreditation body to meet international criteria concerning their quality system and technical competence.

The accreditation is rewarded in a particular measurement field, “scope of accreditation”, to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025.

Why use an accredited laboratory?

ISO/IEC 17025 is a recognized international quality standard. Besides providing metrological confidence to your own operations, using an accredited calibration service will also mean a quality label for your company and products, if your customers know that your test equipment has been thoroughly calibrated by an independent, qualified calibration laboratory.
