Element was originally formed out of the in-house laboratories of Stork, the Dutch engineering and manufacturing company, and we trace our origins back to 1827, over 190 years ago. Our calibration business has a long and rich history dating back over 70 years, and it all started in a Swedish Air Force instrument workshop in 1947. We are the calibration division of Element, now known as Element Metech since June 2018.
Until 1994 the business was a division of FFV Aerotech. On January 1, 1994, FFV Metrology was formed as a subsidiary of FFV Aerotech, which was also the year we launched our Finnish business, FFV Mittausteknika OY.
In 1998, the Celsius group acquired FFV and was renamed Celsius Metech before establishing in Denmark and Germany in 1999. In 2000, Saab acquired the Celsius group and we became Saab Metech.
In 2006, Saab signed an agreement with Bodycote International Plc on the transfer of shares in Saab Metech and its subsidiaries. At this point, Bodycote acquired a large number of test facilities around the world and Bodycote Testing Group was established. Our name became Bodycote Metech.
In 2008, the entire Bodycote Testing Group was acquired by the American private equity company CD&R. The new name became Exova and we became Exova Metech. In 2013, we established in the Czech Republic and in 2014, we moved into Norway while also expanding outside Europe into China and USA as a result of an outsourcing partnership.
In June 2017, Exova Group was acquired by Element Materials Technology. We are the calibration division of Element, now known as Element Metech from June 2018.
